Today at approximately 0528 hrs, the Roosevelt Fire District was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 9 Windmill Road in the Greenfields Development off Cream Street. At 0531 hrs., Chief Lew Darrow arrived on scene to find a structure at the location fully involved in fire. The structure was the housing developments Sewage treatment plant. Firefighters arrived and conducted a rapid agressive attack on what was left of the building, they had the fire under control in a matter of 30-45 minutes. Firefighters had to be cautious during operation due to the several containers of Chlorine nearby the structure, and also a container that was in the building.
The fire is under investigation by the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response Fire Investigation Division and Hyde Park Police. The Roosevelt Fire District was assisted by the Mobile Life Support Services at scene and by Arlington, Hillside and Hyde Park Fire Depts., each who relocated an engine to 3 of the Roosevelt fire stations for stand-by.
