AUTO ALARM OF FIRE, UPGRADED TO STRUCTURE ASSIGNMENT
Sun. Aug 23rd 2020

This evening the Roosevelt Fire District was dispatched to an Automatic Alarm of Fire at the Culinary Institute of America Rosenthal Hall (Dorm C), with 3 engines and the Ladder Truck. Upon units responding,  a call back from CIA security was received reporting smoke in the building, this caused the alarm to be upgraded to a full structural response, this increases the initial assignment to an additional 2 engines, a rescue truck and an ambulance.

1st arriving apparatus was met by security reporting that there was a haze of smoke in the first floor common room with a burning odor.  Crews made their way into the building to search for the cause.  Using multiple methods including Thermal Imaging Cameras, along with old fashion sniff and fell techniques the crews were able to isolate the smell and cause to a apparent burned motor on a Soda Vending machine.  No structural damage was caused and the odor was vented via natural means, once completed the units all were picked up and returned to service.
